The June 2008 trip was one of our best ever! The highlight was the inaguration of the new school and kinder in El Negrito near Comayagua. The villagers voted to name the kinder the Amigos of Honduras Kinder! They were so excited.
We also visited Valerie on Roatan and her aids clinic. Big news there is that the house for the HIV mother is now complete! We visited the children at the Hogar de Amor orphanage near La Ceiba. The kids seem happy and well adjusted. The Jungle school loved the school kits we brought down. We met and traveled for a day with new friends from the Chicago area; SteveO, Becky, Gail and Paris. They are volunteers that are helping with the new kinder where the campesinos live. We also got to visit the new nutrition center in El Porvenir.
In Comayagua Carol took us to two new villages that both need water. They will share a line and near the bottom it will branch to each of the villages. They were very excited!
We spent our last day in the great village of Portillo de la Oki. We brought school supplies and goodies for the children and their new teachers. The teachers were awesome! All of the kindergarten kids looked great in their new uniforms!
The golf tournament was a huge success. The next big event will be the 4th annual dinner in September at Oakridge. More details will be coming.
Thanks for all of your help!
Adios!
