May 2011

men and pipelineEl Presidente and plaqueThe Amigos had a great trip in May, 2011. We had the distinct pleasure of inagurating our biggest water project to date in Siquatepeque. It will benefit 4 villages and 175 families including two that were built for single women.

A new amigo, Dave Barnes (ODB), joined the fun this time.

We had a great party with the HIV group that valerie Nelson works with. We had a giant sand castle contest on the white sand of Roatan. The winner received a toy front-end loader so the competition was intense! The families were all given a meal and some small gifts at the Banana Rama.

inagurationThe SOS orphanage was a great stop! Amigos is building them a new water system. We have had the blessing of seeing the children in the orphanage grow and develop since our first visit in 2005. pipeline It is a riot to play with the children!

In Copan we visited with Ellen Finn. We rode up in the mountains to Boca del Monte on the Guatemalen border, where we inaguarated a bridge. This bridge allows the children to cross the river during the rainy season. Boca was completly cut off to the rest of civilization before this bridge during heavy rainy seasons.

El Portillo de la Oki now has coffee plants that are a year old. The coffee plantings have now been transplanted so that each hus has their own little coffee finca. This will, in another year, become a cash crop for these subsistence farmers.

Thanks to our Amigos in Honduras, Kiko, Carol and Franklin and to all of you who help make this possible.

Gracias!

- Dave and the Amigos
